How Amsterdam On The Go gets its data
Amsterdam On The Go is a practical city utility map. We organise public and open location information into useful layers, add context for visitors, and moderate community submissions before they become public.
Location data
Many map locations originate from OpenStreetMap and public/open datasets. We transform those records into categories that answer practical questions such as where to find drinking water, a toilet, an ATM, a bike pump, an outdoor sports facility or a dog off-leash area.
Events
Our event section focuses on current and upcoming public events that are explicitly identified as free by the source, plus approved community submissions. Events are time-bound and expired events are removed from the current view. When an event has one reliable location, we can show it on the map. Multi-location events remain in the event list rather than being assigned a misleading marker.
Community submissions and moderation
Submitting a place, event or review requires authentication. New community content is treated as untrusted until reviewed. This helps reduce spam, fake locations, inappropriate material and advertising disguised as a useful listing.
Accuracy and corrections
Public-space information changes. Equipment can be removed, opening hours can change and an event can be cancelled. We therefore show the source information we have without claiming real-time certainty. Visitors can report problems and we use those reports to improve the service.
Editorial purpose
The purpose of Amsterdam On The Go is not to reproduce another directory. The site groups information around things people may actually need while moving through Amsterdam and provides an interactive map, category-specific guidance, event timing and a moderated community layer.
