Finding outdoor sports facilities in Amsterdam
The Sports facilities layer is designed for people who know what they want to do but do not necessarily know the name of a court, pitch or exercise area nearby.
What the layer includes
Where the source data identifies the sport, we can distinguish facilities such as football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, fitness and other activities. Some locations are simple outdoor pitches while others are larger sports sites.
Public data is not a booking system
A mapped sports facility may still be reserved, used by a club, temporarily closed or subject to local opening times. A location on the map means it has been mapped as a relevant sports facility, not that we guarantee immediate access.
Combine the layers
If you are planning a longer session, add Drinking water and Public toilets after choosing the sports area. Keeping those secondary layers off until needed makes the sports view easier to read.
Why this is useful
Traditional search works well when you know a venue name. A geographic layer is more useful when your question is simply “what can I play near here?”. That is the problem this part of Amsterdam On The Go is intended to solve.
